Detailed Solution

In the midst of the economic and political crisis of the Mughal rule, the ruler of Iran, Nadir Shah, sacked and plundered the city of Delhi in 1739. He stole a lot of money. Following this invasion, the Afghan monarch, Ahmad Shah Abdali, launched a series of attacks in north India, invading the country five times between 1748 and 1761. Already under intense pressure from all sides, conflict among several groups of nobility undermined the empire even further. The two primary groupings or divisions were the Iranis and the Taranis (nobles of Turkish heritage). For a long time, the later Mughal monarchs were puppets in the hands of one of these two powerful parties.
