Detailed Solution

Halogens are placed in the group 17 of the modern periodic table.
The halogens are the elements which are present in group 17 of the modern periodic table. They are reactive in nature and are nonmetallic and include fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and iodine (I).
The electrons in their outermost shells are 7 (n2np5) and only need 1 electron to attain their nearest noble gas configuration. Halogens are non-metals that are very reactive. These elements share a lot of characteristics in common. Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine are the elements that make up Group 17 and are generally referred to as halogens (halo means salt and genes mean producing, so jointly salt producing).
