Detailed Solution

In the past, Delhi’s famous canals brought water to homes for fresh drinking water and other domestic uses. A canal ran through the markets of Chandni chowk itself. The Mughal city of Delhi and the Capital city of Shahjahanabad were well equipped with water resources through canals and drainage. But later on, in the 19th century, this water supply system was neglected, and the channels to remove effluents from households were damaged. Even the system of Baolis or wells broke down. With the increasing population, the water supply problem became very severe in the capital.
