In India, they are prevalent in the Western Ghats, northeast states like Assam, the Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar group of islands, and the Tamil Nadu coast. Every region except the Tamil Nadu coast receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon. Tamil Nadu receives most of its precipitation from the northeast winds.
