Detailed Solution

In the years that followed 1815, many liberal-nationalists went underground out of fear of repression. Many European nations saw the emergence of secret societies to educate revolutionaries and promote their ideologies. At this time, being a revolutionary meant committing to fight for liberty and freedom while opposing the monarchical structures that had been put in place following the Vienna Congress. The majority of these revolutionaries likewise believed that building nation-states were essential to pursuing freedom. Giuseppe Mazzini, an Italian revolutionary, was one such person. He was born in Genoa in 1807 and joined the Carbonari, a clandestine organisation. Later, he established two more secret organisations with like-minded young men from different countries: Young Europe in Berne and Young Italy in Marseilles.
