On the bank of the Ravi River in Lahore, Congress President Jawaharlal Nehru raised the flag of full independence at midnight on December 31, 1929, in front of a sizable throng. The Indian National Congress also determined that January 26, 1930, would be honored as the day of full or absolute independence. People all around the country enthusiastically observed this day as Independence Day. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru proclaimed Poorna Swaraj at the Lahore session in Lahore.
