In Sringaverapura near Allahabad, you find one of the oldest water-harvesting systems in India. Uttar Pradesh, Sringaverapura is the oldest water harvesting system in India which was made at the end of 1st BC near Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. It contains three pre-location cum storage tanks connected to an 11-metre wide and 5-metre deep canal. It was used to save the water that came after flooding caused by the river Ganga in the adjoining areas of Allahabad(now Prayagraj). This system is a perfect example of Hydraulic engineering. This site was explored under the project ‘Archaeology of the Ramayana Sites’. When this site was discovered, it was found that a major part of the site was made up of levigating clay.
