Animal cells group together to form animal tissues like muscular tissue, bone tissue, blood, nervous tissue, etc.

Only plants and some bacteria are capable of synthesizing their own food, whereas animals are heterotrophic and depend on plants and other sources for food.

Organisms that perform photosynthesis release oxygen as a byproduct during photosynthesis, whereas animals do not perform photosynthesis and need oxygen for respiration.

The physiological process in which excess water in plants evaporates from the surface of leaves due to the sun’s heat is known as transpiration. Animals do not perform transpiration.

Locomotion means the movement of an organism from one place to another. Plants being stationary do not locomote whereas, animals possess specialised tissues called muscles that help them flex and retract their body parts. This feature helps them to locomote from one place to another.

A few examples of animals showing locomotion are as follows:

  • A starfish has suckers and podia on their arms for locomotion.
  • An earthworm has setae for locomotion.
  • Humans have hindlimbs for bipedal locomotion.
  • Birds have wings for flying and legs for bipedal locomotion.
  • Snakes crawl with the help of scales on their ventral body surface.
