Detailed Solution

In 1916, Mahatma Gandhi inspired the peasants of the Champaran district of Bihar to struggle against the oppressive plantation system. Gandhiji launched the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 for the indigo plantation workers. It was the first movement of Gandhiji. They were forced to grow indigo crops in the fields and sell them to the British government at lower prices. After the cultivation, the farmers could not produce any other crop, which made their condition worse. This oppressive system led to a movement against the British government. All the peasant workers supported Gandhiji in this movement of Champaran satyagraha.
