The famous valleys of Kashmir, Kangra, and Kullu are located in Himachal. The Himalayas are India's youngest fold mountain range stretched over the Northern borders. These mountain ranges are west-east from the Indus River to the Brahmaputra. These mountains are one of the most rugged mountain barriers in the world. The northernmost range of the Himalayas is known as the HimadriThe northernmost range is known as Himadri or Inner Himalayas or the Great Himalayas. South of the Himadri range is the Himachal or lesser Himalaya. These ranges are highly compressed rocks between 3700 and 4500 metres. The Himachal, or lesser Himalayas, is famous for the Kangra and Kullu valleys in Himachal Pradesh. The outermost range of the Himalayas is called the Shiwaliks, with an altitude between 900-1100 metres.
