Detailed Solution

Sri Lankan Tamils are concentrated in the north and east of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Tamils are natives to Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Tamils constitute only about 13 per cent of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. Most Tamil people are Indian Tamils whose ancestors migrated from India to work on plantations in Sri Lanka during the colonial period. As is, the Tamil-speaking population constituted only 18 per cent of the total population of Sri Lanka; the fact that they formed even a minority even among this population meant that the Sinhala-dominated government of the country disregarded them.
