Detailed Solution

Swidden agriculture, commonly known as shifting cultivation, was practised in many countries of Asia, Africa, and South America.
It is a traditional farming method. The main characteristic of Swidden farming is forested' periodic cutting and burning. The seeds are planted in the ashes after the first monsoon rains. The plots are cultivated for a few years before being abandoned for 12 to 18 years to allow the forest to regenerate. A variety of crops are grown in these plots. For example, it might be millets in central India and Africa, manioc in Brazil, and maize and beans elsewhere in Latin America.
