Watan jagirs were popular in Rajasthan. Many of the Rajput kings had given their services under the Mughals. The Rajput king, especially belonging to Amber and Jodhpur, had served under the Mughal court. In return for their services, Rajput kings got a considerable amount of autonomy in the form of watan jagir. Hence, the system of watan jagir was popular in the region of Rajasthan and its peripheral areas. As the Mughal Empire declined the rulers in these watan jagirs declared their permanent rule and extended their control even over adjacent regions. As the ruling of these watan jagir rulers became permanent, a large portion of Rajasthan came under rulers like Nagaur and was conquered to the house of Jodhpur and Sawai Raja Jaisingh founded his new capital at Jaipur.
