Gandhiji organised Satyagraha to support the peasants of Kheda in Gujarat.
After successfully organising the Champaran Satyagraha in Bihar in 1916, Mahatma Gandhi visited the Kheda district in Gujarat. In Kheda, Gandhi supported the peasants in organising a Satyagraha against the revenue collection. The peasants struggled to pay the revenue taxes due to crop failure and the epidemic plague in Kheda. The main demand of the movement was relaxation in the revenue tax collection. Gandhiji could sympathise with and understand the plight of the peasants who were not being able to meet the high revenue tax demands of the state. So in 1917, the peasants of the Kheda district of Gujarat organised a Satyagraha with the support of Mahatma Gandhi.
