In 1895, Birsa was arrested by British officials. British officials arrested Birsa in 1895 after the spread of the movement. They put him in prison and were blamed on the charges of rioting. He was released after two years in 1897 and started to gather support by touring the villages. He told people to finish the "Ravana", representing the Dikus and establish a new Kingdom under his leadership. Birsa's followers targeted Dikus and the Europeans, and they also attacked police stations and raided moneylenders and zamindar's property. His followers raised the white flag as a symbol of Birsa Raj.
