Detailed Solution

Rinderpest, or the cattle plague, first hit the African territories in the 1890s.
The devastating effect that the cattle epidemic, also known as Rinderpest, had on Africa's local economies and human lifestyles in the 1890s were huge. For many generations, Africans rarely engaged in paid labour because land and cattle provided their subsistence. In the latter half of the 1880s, Rinderpest reaches Africa. It entered Africa from the east and spread westward "like a forest fire" and, in 1892, reached Africa's Atlantic coast. Five years later, it arrived at Cape Town, the southernmost point of Africa. Rinderpest killed 90% of the livestock along the way.
