Detailed Solution

In 1948, Sri Lanka emerged as an independent country.
Unlike the Indian Freedom Struggle, the Sri Lankan independence struggle was a nonviolent political movement. It was intended to grant British Ceylon, the nation at the time, freedom and self-rule. In 1948, Sri Lanka became an independent country. Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamils are the two main social groups in Sri Lanka. The Sinhalese are people who speak Sinhala. The Tamils of Sri Lanka are those who speak Tamil. Seventy-four percent of Sri Lanka's population is Sinhalese, whereas eighteen percent of Sri Lanka's people are Tamil. Since they were the majority, the Sinhala community established the government. Additionally, they adhered to preferential hiring practices that favored Sinhala candidates for posts in academia and the government.
