Detailed Solution

The Chauri Chaura incident took place in 1922.
In the Chauri Chaura incident, which happened on February 4, 1922, police opened fire on a sizable crowd of demonstrators taking part in the non-cooperation movement in Chauri Chaura, in the Gorakhpur district of the United Provinces (modern-day Uttar Pradesh), in British India. In retribution, the protesters assaulted and destroyed a police station, murdering everyone who was inside. Three civilians and 22 police officers died as a result of the event. As a direct result of this occurrence, Mahatma Gandhi, who vehemently opposed violence, put an end to the non-cooperation campaign on a national basis on February 12, 1922. However, despite Gandhi's decision, the British colonial authorities executed 19 protestors who had been imprisoned and condemned 14 others to life in jail.
