Detailed Solution

Beginning in 1914, the First World War was fought mostly in Europe.
But people throughout the world were affected by it. There were two power blocs involved in the First World War. The Central Powers, which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Ottoman Turkey, was on the other side of the Allies, which initially consisted of Britain, France, and Russia (later joined by the US). Many governments believed that the war would be concluded by Christmas when it first broke out in August 1914. It lasted more than four years and was won by the Allies in 1918.
