In 1946 women got the right to vote in France.
But the fight for a political party for women persisted. The new government passed legislation during the Reign of Terror that forbade women's groups from participating in politics and mandating their liquidation. Numerous well-known ladies were detained, and some were put to death. Throughout the following 200 years, women's movements for equal pay and voting rights persisted worldwide. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, an international suffrage movement was used to fight for the right to vote. The political involvement of French women during the Revolutionary era was held up as an inspiration. The ability to vote for women in France was eventually achieved in 1946.
