Detailed Solution

In 2006  a law was made to stop domestic violence. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, was enforced on October 26, 2006. The act protected women against verbal, sexual, physical, economic, and emotional abuse from relatives, especially male members. Women’s right to the shared household with the husband or the husband’s family home where they live was recognised. If the women are evicted from the house, they may seek protection or compensation. The law defines domestic violence as similar to that of the United Nations. Domestic violence includes actual violence as well as the threat of violence. Dowry demands have also been included in this. The enactment of the law resulted from campaigns to fight violence against women.
