Detailed Solution

The first English factory was set up in 1651.
On the banks of river Hugli in 1651, the East India Company set up its first factory. They started building a fort near the settlement in 1696. Two years later, they bribed Mughal officials and got zamindari rights over three villages- Sutanuti, Kolkata, and Gobindapur. Aurangzeb issued a decree in which he granted the right to trade duty-free to the Company. The British refused to pay taxes, and it caused a huge revenue loss to Bengal. After the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, the Nawabs of Bengal took the Company's rights and power, which led to conflict between them, and later they faced the Battle of Plassey.
