In 1793, Permanent Settlement was introduced.
Most of the company officials thought that land investment had to be moved forward with the improvement in agriculture. After that, in 1793, the Company introduced the Permanent Settlement system. The terms of this system stated that rajas and taluqdars would be recognised as zamindars. The Zamindar's duty was to collect rent from the peasants, and he had to pay revenue to the company. The amount they had to pay to the company was fixed permanently, meaning no increase or decrease in the amount would happen. The company thought that it would help them with revenue increment and enter the company's strong box. The system encouraged Zamindars to invest in the improvisation of the land.
