In 1885, Massai land was cut in half with an international boundary between Kenya and Tanzania.
Before colonial times, Masai land stretched over a vast area from North Kenya to the steppes of Northern Tanzania. But in the late 19th century, European imperial powers scrambled for territorial possessions in Africa, and that's why they cut up the region into different colonies. Therefore, in 1885, the Massai land was cut in half. Many of their best grazing lands were gradually taken over by the white settlement for making colonies, and the Massai were posted into smaller areas for grazing and living.
