In which year was the Constitution of India adopted?

The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th November 1949 after nearly three years of extensive deliberations by the Constituent Assembly. The Assembly, which first met on 9th December 1946, took about two years, eleven months, and eighteen days to complete the monumental task. The adoption marked a turning point in India’s journey toward self-governance, laying down the legal and moral framework of the Republic. Although adopted in 1949, it came into force on 26th January 1950 to honor the declaration of Purna Swaraj made in 1930. This adoption symbolized India’s commitment to democracy, justice, liberty, and equality.
