The Non-Cooperation Movement was withdrawn in 1922. Gandhi called it off after the Chauri Chaura incident in Gorakhpur. In this incident, numerous police officers were murdered and wounded by an angry mob. This incident occurred because people protested against the high prices in the market and the protest turned violent. After the incident, Mahatma Gandhi called off the movement as he realised that the people were not ready for any non-violent actions. He also believed that people were not given proper training to show restraint in the face of any violent attack.
