Detailed Solution

In 1921 the system of indentured labour migration was abolished.
Indentured labour was a system of bonded labour, in which labourers entered into a contract with the employer, specifying the number of years they will work. The journey to a new country was to be paid off through his/her wages. This system of labor emerged in the 19th century after the abolition of slavery. From India, indentured workers who were also known as 'coolies',  generally came from the present-day regions of Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, dry districts of Tamil Nadu, and Central India. Labourers from these regions were forced to migrate in search of work because declining cottage industries, increasing land rents, and seizing lands for mines and plantations left them poorer and deeply indebted. Indentured labour migration was abolished in 1921 after protests by India's nationalist leaders.
