Detailed Solution

  • When benzene reacts with chlorine in presence of catalyst AlCl3 or in presence of ultraviolet light then it gives chlorobenzene.
  • Benzene undergoes electrophilic substitution easily because it has delocalised electron around the ring which increases electron density due to which more electrophile is attracted towards it.
  • Benzene does not decolourise the alkaline KMnO4. Benzene has most stable ring because of delocalised electron, electron density is high on it so it undergo substitution reaction but not addition reaction.
