Detailed Solution

Indentured labour is also known as bonded labour. In India, indentured labourers are bonded labourers under contract to work for an employer for a specific period to pay off their passage to a new home or a new country. These labourers could be transferred to any country or contracted for a fixed amount of wages and time. The maximum number of labourers were from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Central India and certain districts of Tamil Nadu. The indenture system of the 19th century has been described as a "new system of slavery. The nationalist leaders of India believed that the system of indentured labour migration was abusive and cruel, so they opposed it. This system was abolished in 1921.
