Indentured labourer also means bonded labour. In the nineteenth century, indenture arose as a new kind of slavery. Indentured labour is a contract of bonded labour where the worker is provided with a passage to a country by the employer in exchange for labour for a specified period. But the workers were frequently tricked by the agents. They were often not informed about long and dangerous sea journeys. Even if they survived the trip, the plantations had conditions worse than the migrants faced in their countries. They even had very few legal rights. Hence it is called bonded labour.
