India became sovereign, democratic and a republic on 26th of January 1950.
The constitution of India was framed and came into effect on this date. The Indian Constitution is the longest written constitution in the world and has an effort of about three years. The Constituent Assembly held a series of meetings between December 1946 and November 1949. Three hundred members met in New Delhi and debated for about 114 days. The members of the Constituent Assembly came from all over the country and from all backgrounds, professions, castes, etc. Almost all matters and issues were discussed in these meetings.
