Detailed Solution

India has no national language or languages. The Indian Constitution does not recognise any language as a national language. This is a token of respect toward the linguistic diversity of the country. Hindi and English were recognised as official languages at the central level. However, the Constitution provides 22 languages, including Hindi, the status of Scheduled Languages. These languages are used as official languages in various states. English has also been used along with Hindi at the central level. Despite the suggestion in the Constitution, the political leaders have not encouraged the erasure of English from official status. This, again, is in recognition of the linguistic variety of the country and the sentiments of the people.
