India has a Three tier form of government. Federalism is a form of government that ensures that power is not concentrated at one level and is based on the principle of power-sharing. The constitution of India divides the legislative power into 3 lists, i.e., the Union list, which contains subjects of national importance on which the central government makes laws. The State list contains the subjects of state/regional importance on which the state government makes laws. Finally, the concurrent list contains subjects on which central and state governments make laws.
