Detailed Solution

India is the largest producer and consumer of Pulses in the world.
Pulse is the essential crop in India as it is the leading producer and consumer. Most Indians consume pulses because they provide nutrients such as protein in the food. They require less hydration and may flourish in arid environments. All these crops, except arhar, are leguminous and contribute to soil fertility restoration.
India is the world's finest producer of pulses. It produces 27 per cent of global production. Pulses account for approximately 20% of the area under food grains and provide 7-10% of overall foodgrains output in the country. Farmers cultivate pulses in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Rabi pulses produce 60 percent of overall production.
