Detailed Solution

Indian bankers financed the trade in agriculture export in the 19th century. During the 19th century, the demand for food grains emerged in European countries. India was involved in agriculture production and contributed significantly to the global agricultural trade. For large-scale production and export, huge investment was required. The Indian bankers financed the trade to Central Asia and Southeast Asia. They utilised their capital and sometimes borrowed from European banks. Shikaripuri Shroffs and Nattukottai Chettiars were among the Indian bankers who played a major role in agricultural trade.
