Indian Forest Act was passed in 1865. Dietrich Brandis was a German-British botanist by nationality who became the Inspector General of Forests in India in 1864. The British Government in India invited him to visit and share ideas on protecting India's forests to meet the country's raw material requirements. As a result, he made several crucial suggestions that altered India's forest practices. Brandis devised a new forest regulation. In 1864, Brandis established the Indian Forest Service and helped to draft the Indian Forest Act of 1865. In 1906, he established the Imperial Forest Research Institute in Dehradun. He introduced a new scientific or commercial forestry system.
