Detailed Solution

Indian indentured labourers were called Coolies. The term is frequently defined as a component of the indentured labour system that developed after slavery was abolished in the 1800s, gaining prominence mainly in the mid-to-late-1800s. It is nearly always used for Asian labourers, mainly Indian and Chinese. Midway through the 19th century, areas were cleared for mining and plantations, cottage industries collapsed, and land rentals increased. Because they were compelled to relocate for work and were heavily indebted, this impacted the poor. In addition, many poor people were persuaded to travel and labour because the agents gave them incorrect information about the end destinations, nature of the employment, and living and working conditions.
