Detailed Solution

Cotton weavers in India faced two issues at a time: their export market had collapsed, and the domestic market shrunk due to Manchester imports. Imported cotton quality was so cheap because it was produced by machines at reduced costs. Weavers confronted a new challenge by the 1860s. They were unable to obtain a sufficient quantity of high-quality raw cotton. When the American Civil War broke out, then Britain looked to India. As India's cotton exports grew, the price of cotton soared. Weavers in India were denied supply and forced to pay high prices for raw cotton.
