Detailed Solution

Indian workers in South Africa marched through Volksrust on 6 November 1913. In January 1915, Mahatma Gandhi made his way back to India. He had arrived from South Africa, where he had used an innovative strategy of public agitation that he called satyagraha to defeat the racist government. From Newcastle to Transvaal, Mahatma Gandhi led the Indian workers while travelling through Volksrust. Thousands of other workers joined the satyagraha against racist laws that restricted rights to non-whites after the marchers were stopped and Gandhiji was taken into custody.
