Detailed Solution

1)      India’s climate has characteristics of tropical and subtropical climates.
2)      India is a country located just above the Equator.
3)      The location and latitudinal extent influence the climatic conditions of the subcontinent.
4)      These factors influence the pressure and wind system as it varies with the latitudes.
5)      The Tropic of Cancer passing through the middle makes the Southern half of the country lie in the tropical zone and the Northern half in the subtropical zone.
6)      This difference gets reflected in the climatic conditions in the north and south of the Tropic of Cancer. Cities to the south also have the moderating influence of the surrounding oceans. It makes the climate moderate without much difference in the day and night temperatures.
