Detailed Solution

India's textile exports declined in the nineteenth century. The growth of the cotton industry in Britain had a variety of effects on Indian textile manufacturers. First, in the European and American markets, Indian textiles had to deal with British textiles. Second, since extremely high taxes were placed on Indian textiles shipped into Britain, exporting fabrics to England also became more challenging. The onset of the nineteenth century saw the effective eviction of Indian products from their usual markets in Africa, America, and Europe by English-made cotton textiles. Many of the weavers in India were unemployed due to this. The worst affected were Bengal weavers. English and European businesses ceased importing items from India, and their agents stopped lending loans to weavers to buy supplies. Weavers in need petitioned the government for assistance in their letters.
