In the 19th century, industrialisation took place in France and the German states.
Historians of France believe that the real genesis of modern industry in France occurred after 1830. After almost two decades and a half of the revolution and revolutionary warfare, the French industry had quite some difficulty competing with British industry. Industrialisation in Germany was the phase of the breakthrough of industrialisation in Germany, beginning from around 1815 to 1835. This period was preceded by pre-industrialisation and early industrialisation. Germany’s industrialisation started with the building of railroads and the subsequent development of coal mining and iron and steel production.
