Napoleon Bonaparte was the first consul of the French republic from 1799 to 1804, after which he declared himself the Emperor of France. At first, people considered him the liberator of France because of the various measures introduced to repudiate the privileges based on birth, like the abolition of feudalism, freedom of peasants from serfdom and feudal dues, the establishment of equality before the law, and a property right. But later, people realised that instead of bringing freedom to people, he was shackling them with chains of absolutist monarchy.
