Intracellular digestion in Poriferans is similar to that of protozoans.

When digestion takes place inside the body of an organism, it is called intracellular digestion.

Porifers are filter feeders. With the current of water, food enters the body of porifers. The food is engulfed by food vacuoles of specialized cells called choanocytes and digestion takes place. Since digestion takes place inside the cell, it is called intracellular digestion. 

In protozoans also, intracellular digestion takes place with the help of food vacuoles.
