Detailed Solution

Ireland was incorporated into the United Kingdom in 1804.
Because the nation-state did not emerge due to an abrupt upheaval or revolution, Britain's history of nationalism differs from that of the rest of Europe. The ethnic identities of the inhabitants of the British Isles, such as English, Welsh, Scots, or Irish, served as their significant identifiers. Due to the creation of the "United Kingdom of Great Britain" as a result of the Act of Union (1707) between England and Scotland, England was allowed to exert its influence over Scotland. Political institutions and Scotland's unique culture were systematically undermined. The Scottish Highlanders were forcibly expelled from their homeland and were not allowed to use their native Gaelic language or garb. The English assisted the Irish Protestants in establishing their rule over a predominantly Catholic nation. Catholic uprisings against British rule were put down. In 1801, Britain forcibly absorbed Ireland into its territory. The previous nations only remained subservient partners in this union, with the British flag, national anthem, and English language actively promoted as the symbols of the new Britain.
