Detailed Solution

It is given that the weight of iron, which is used to make a beam that is 9 m long, 40 cm wide, and 20 cm high, is 50 kg per cubic m 3 .
We know that the volume of a cuboid is V= l×b×h ,   where l   is length, b  is the breadth, and h   is height.
The weight of an object is W=m×V,   where m is the mass of the object.
Given that the cubical beam is 9 m in length, 40 cm in width, and 20 cm in height.
Convert width and height from cm to m.
  40cm= 40 100 m = 0.4m 20cm= 20 100 m = 0.2m   Calculate the volume of the beam as shown:
  V= l×b×h =9×0.4×0.2 m 3 =7.2 m 3   Mass of the beam is 50 kg per m 3 .
Calculate the weight of the beam as,
W=m×V =50×7.2kg =36kg
Therefore the beam weighs approximately 36 kg.
Hence, option (3) is correct.
