Is 26 out of 80 Pass in Maths?

In most CBSE board exams, the passing criteria is 33% of the total marks. For a paper marked out of 80, this means:

• 33% of 80 = 26.4 marks
• Since fractions are not used, students usually need 27 marks out of 80 to pass.

However, to qualify fully, students must also pass in internal assessment/practical exams, which carry 20 marks in many subjects. The final pass requirement combines theory + internal marks.

Example:

• If a student scores 26 in the theory exam and 12/20 in internal assessment, total = 38/100 → PASS.
• If a student scores 25 in theory but full 20 in internal assessment, total = 45/100 → PASS (since total ≥ 33%).
