Detailed Solution

Glucose is the primary source of energy in the metabolism of all organisms. For storage, it exists in polymer form—mainly as starch and amylopectin in plants and as glycogen in animals. In animals, glucose also circulates in the blood as blood sugar.

The naturally occurring form is D-glucose, while L-glucose is synthesized in very small amounts and has little biological importance. Structurally, glucose is an aldohexose, meaning it is a monosaccharide with six carbon atoms and an aldehyde group.

The pH scale measures the acidity or basicity of a solution:

  • pH = 7 → Neutral solution
  • pH < 7 → Acidic solution
  • pH > 7 → Basic solution

Glucose has a neutral nature with a pH close to 7. It does not release hydrogen ions like acids, nor does it donate hydroxyl ions like bases.

Conclusion

Glucose is neither acidic nor basic—it is neutral.
