On the other hand, the dark side of this growth was the indentured labour system, often called the “new system of slavery.” A bonded contract labourer employed for a fixed time is known as an indentured labourer/worker. When these workers arrived on the plantation, they were given the harshest treatment and had to deal with inhumane living conditions. They had absolutely no legal rights and were constantly forced to work for long hours.
