A battery is a combination of two or more electric cells in a series where a cell is a source of electric current which can convert chemical energy into electrical energy.
There are two terminals of the cell, one is positive, and the other is negative. When an electric device, such as an electric bulb, is connected to these two terminals, a chemical reaction takes place and produces an electric current for the connected device. Here, the electric current always flows from the positive terminal to the negative terminal. This arrangement forms a circuit.
